Why Early Care Matters
Early appointment is the first step to a successful healthcare journey!
We are believers in the importance of education, preventive care and the development of good habits. Baby teeth will eventually fall out, but our mission is to create a lifetime of good habits that will ensure a life of healthy teeth and overall oral health. We work hard to make brushing and care of one’s teeth a fun activity.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises parents to schedule their child’s first dental visit by age one to learn proper oral hygiene techniques, detect cavities early, and monitor dental development. Early dental visits help prevent early childhood caries (cavities), ensuring a positive experience for children at the dentist’s office. As a preventive care forward practice, we have found that these early visits help get our patients off to a great start!

Tips for a successful visit
Caring for Your Child and Nitrous Oxide
Our entire team specializes in the care of nervous, apprehensive children. Our administrative staff, dental assistants, hygienists and doctors are all committed to ensuring that your child has a positive experience at our office.
We welcome parents who wish to accompany their child into our treatment areas. Although we have noticed that some children do better when parents remain in our waiting room, we are happy to have you present with your child. We do suggest the following guidelines to help make the visit successful:
We also offer the option of providing nitrous oxide (‘laughing gas’) for our patients who are especially anxious. Nitrous oxide is an exceptionally safe and effective means of helping patients relax. Your child will remain fully awake throughout the entire procedure. Once the procedure is over, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off within 5 minutes, and your child is ready to leave. Nitrous oxide is a great option for any child with dental anxiety.

Special Care for All
We are dedicated to providing compassionate dental care for all children, and especially children with special needs. Our experienced pediatric dentists have undergone extensive training in 2 year hospital-based specialty programs, beyond the usual 4 years of dental school. Our training includes caring for patients with developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, complex medical conditions and behavioral challenges.
We have hospital privileges at South Shore Hospital and the Department of Dentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital. As members of the faculty at Boston Children’s Hospital, we are able to closely coordinate any necessary care with our medical colleagues.
Our goal is to create a supportive environment, and to be your child’s dental home for all of their oral health care needs. From cleanings, to fillings to orthodontics, we aim to create a warm, caring environment where your child looks forward to visiting.

Hospital Dentistry for Children
At Dentistry for Children, we understand that some of our younger patients may require extensive dental care that goes beyond traditional office visits. For these patients we offer hospital dentistry as a safe alternative. Our experienced pediatric dentists, trained in hospital dentistry, collaborate with board-certified anesthesiologists to provide specialized care in a hospital setting, ensuring the utmost safety and comfort for the child.
Our pediatric dentists maintain hospital privileges at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth and are staff members of the Department of Dentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital. With a deep understanding of our patients’ unique needs, we are dedicated to delivering the best possible care in a supportive environment.
If your child requires hospital dentistry or if you have any questions about this option, please contact us.

Fluoride and Sealants
Preventive Care for Healthy Teeth
Fluoride and Sealants
Our practice is committed to the overall health of our patients, including the prevention of cavities. We adhere to all the standards and recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Fluoride and sealants are an important part of ensuring that your child’s teeth remain healthy.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is essential for proper tooth development and for preventing tooth decay. While many towns in the area have municipal water that is fluoridated, we may recommend fluoride supplements for children without access to fluoridated water. Topical fluoride applications in our office strengthen tooth enamel and help repair small cavities.
Dental sealants are invisible tooth colored resin coatings that smooth out the chewing surfaces of back teeth, making them resistant to decay. By filling in tiny grooves that trap bacteria and food particles, sealants provide a protective barrier against cavities. Placement of sealants is painless, and is one the most effective ways of preventing cavities.
